SECOND GRADE - FALL 2016
Slinky Lizards
The key to this project was to carefully listen and follow directions! Second grade read Art and Max by David Wiesner. We added lots of texture and patterns to our lizards and then carefully made our cuts and folds so that our final product was 3-D and SLINKY! Students demonstrated focus and perseverance as they excitedly created these paper sculptures.
Colorful Turkeys
GOBBLE GOBBLE! Second graders made some bright and colorful (and plump) turkeys before Thanksgiving. We experimented with tissue paper and watched as the colors spread and mixed when we painted watered-down glue across the paper. Their faces are so cute and I love the little extra touches they added like hats and flowers and bows.
Fall Trees
All of that talk about warm and cool colors tied right into talking about those brightly colored leaves falling to the ground outside. We painting intricate trees and painted warm and cool paper to cut out leaves and glue down. Students made their leaves however they wished and scattered them among the branches, in mid-fall, and piled on the ground.
Warm and Cool Skies
Second grade kicked off the year with a review of warm and cool colors. We studied paintings by famous artists, such as Vincent Van Gogh, who used color to portray light and feeling. These paintings were completed with oil pastel patterns, water color, and oil resist techniques. They are bright and beautiful, I was very proud of each of them.
